Drunk Bicycling
Some people have too much free time.
A 21 year old male was brought in by EMS after a "bike accident." We assumed it was a trauma from a motorcycle accident, but we weren't sure after glancing at the guy. We asked EMS what kind of a bike...trying to figure out if it was a bicycle or a motorcycle. One paramedic replied, "I think it was a huffy"......so needless to say there was no trauma activation.
The guy was completely naked riding his bicycle in the streets. He had a bush bigger than a 70s porn star. This winner hit a curb and went flying face first and opened up the front of his head. After hearing the chuckles from the staff...he replied by giving us the middle finger with both hands high in the air. It was classic.
We let him calm down for a while. When we went to check on him later and asked him how he was...he started screaming "I feel BEAUTIFUL. I feel GORGEOUS. I feel BEAUTIFUL!" That lasted for about 5 minutes. In the end he suffered no serious injuries.

Well, the beautiful people have all the luck.
That's how it works, right?

Well, it is a rather amusing story, but one best talked about only among staff. I do not remember anyone stating in nursing 101, or even in my master degree program, that it was cool to laugh at a patient in front of him/her. He was injured (would you have laughed if he was critically injured? I wonder...) Even if not seriously injured, there was no right for anyone to laugh and to treat him in this manner. What if his drinking was not a one-time binge? What if he was an alcoholic? He then would have a disease; one that was being laughed at in front of him. Start thinking like professionals, start acting like professionals. The fact one person admitted in public that 'all' were laughing in front of him, to the extent he showed a rude gesture only makes the medical profession look like a joke.
Offended nurse must be a floor nurse
Everyone sing a little Queen with me "I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my biiiiiiikkkke!"
ROTFL.
You know what else is a funny disease?? Gonorrhea
Hillarious, Offended Nurse really needs to take life less seriously, if we can't laugh at silly things, it's time to check out.
Offended Nurse - I am rather offended at your presumptions that he was treated in anything other than a professional manner. Can doctor's and nurses not have a sense of humor?
Remember - It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt; Then it's hilarious.
Even if he was an alcoholic - does that really matter? The reason it was funny was some guy got all jacked up riding a 'huffy' bicycle. Get off your high-horse and get over yourself.
"I think it was a huffy"
Wow I nearly fell out of my chair cracking up at that part. This made my day.
