Chief Complaint of the Day
What was the chief complaint you might ask?....
Patient: "I swallowed two thousand dollars worth of crack and now my stomach and chest hurt."
That's a lot of crack. His heart rate reflected it. He said he swallowed it pure. It wasn't wrapped in anything or stuffed in any orifices. The police showed up, he freaked, and shoved his hard earned drugs down his throat.
So my job was to basically keep him alive by not letting his heart explode. Thanks to a medicine called Ativan, in continuous IV drip form, this was accomplished.

Did he swallow some teeth,? There seems to be a few missing...maybe the extra calcium increased his heart rate a little, too.
Surely you know I am jesting! But well done to keep this one going...
Hope this finds you well.
Jim
What? Someone where we work had two thousand dollars at one time? He surely was holding some crack for someone else.
It's really a shame that sometimes we can't just let the chips fall where they may.
Darwin is thwarted once again...
Jim, Those are summer teeth, sum-er there, sum-er not.

I once had someone swallow an entire bag of meth...HR 200+, temp 106.8. That was a fun night...
A little renal and liver failure paid for by the state to avoid jail never hurt anyone...
Next time you should use the Adderal drip.
Wow - sounds like phentolamine might have also been helpful.
i had a patient walk up to my consultation window: "what do you recommend for my headache. i was hospitalized yesterday for a crack overdose." me: ................
