Divine Intervention

I think I believe in divine intervention.....

A very frail 84 year old female came in after passing out. Where did she pass out you might ask??? At the DMV renewing her drivers license!!! She was sitting down to take the picture and "fell out." The culprit was her blood glucose. She was very hypoglycemic. She took all her insulin in the morning but forgot to eat. Yes...that's who we need driving.

There had to be a power from above that intervened before her picture was taken.

As a person with T1DM with hypoglycemic unawareness (don't feel it till 45), that is a real fear for me. Damn insurance companies not paying for RT-CGM devices. Nothing to do w/ g-ma... hope she enjoys her bus pass.

Yeah. I worry about seizure patients and diabetics driving, but still think they should be allowed to. More concerned about the seizure patients.

But this was more about me thinking 84 year olds probably shouldn't be driving. Yes I know there are some that can and do great. Hell my 80 year old grandfather drives a van to take elderly to their appointments b/c he is more like a 60 year old. but overall.....octarians probably shouldn't be on the road

Too bad all the seizure patients can't have seizure dogs...like...SPOILER ALERT... the Attorney in "My Sister's Keeper". Hee, the dog's name was "Judge"...best part of the book.

I'm not going to argue on any of those. With the clinical trial I am on, I end up driving 6 hours to get to the site, which is never fun trying to balance glucose, trying not to eat shitty and sheer boredom. BTW the CT I am on is DEFEND-2 and since I'm not getting much of an effect, I'm doing this all on the placebo arm. Awesome... So I end up in a car for about 12 of 24 hours, leaving Sunday afternoon, 8 am appt and on the road again at 9 am-ish. When I'm driving, the BG is attempted to keep >90 w/ 6+ tests during the drive, which gets old stopping all the damn time. No I'm not going to test while driving, which could pry be the only thing worse than texting.

To make it more fun,I'm still in the survival mode of the T1DM honeymoon period (dx 5/17/10).

If you ever have anyone in the ER croak w/ a RT-CGM device/pump and the family doesn't want it, send it my way.
