More Fun With Guns

Latest victim of a gun shot wound was a 46 year old male who was shot by his...FOUR YEAR OLD SON!!!

Story was that an 18 year old was teaching his 4 year old brother how to "target shoot" from the back of his pick up truck. When dad came outside, the 4 year old turned to show him what he could do and accidently fired a bullet through his dad's spleen and esophagus.

Who's to blame in this one??

Good question. How about, the 18 year old and the father who both should have realized the danger and taken precautions....

I don't think people are actually getting smarter as the years go by.

Um, society?

That's quite a trajectory. Low velocity bullet that tumbled, or was it two separate shotgun pellets? Either way, dad's lucky it didn't hit his aorta or cava.

Goes to show that an eighteen year old is not mature enough to be teaching a four year old. A gun of any kind should not be in the hands of a four year old. My opinion.

All the idiots who believe the 2nd admentment gives a 17yo the right to show a 4yo how to target shoot. In My own opinion~the entire NRA!

Father obviously didn't teach muzzle safety to the 18yo. In fact, if there are guns around, muzzle safety should have already been taught to everyone in the household even if they never anticipate touching the guns. 4yo who lives with guns should already know never point any gun at any person, so the parents screwed up here, too.

18yo should have emphasized muzzle safety before ever allowing someone of any age possession of a firearm. 18yo should have informed everyone in the vicinity what was taking place before ever removing firearms from the gun safe - that way nobody inadvertently walks into line of fire.

The 18 year old's.... you should not be teaching a 4 year old how to shoot from the back of a pickup. You should not even let the kid be holding and swinging the weapon around unless you have a hand on either the gun or at least on the kid's shoulders so you can grab him.

It is not the guns fault. It is not the 4 year olds fault. It is not even the dad's fault (at least it doesn't seem that way). That 18 year old prolly was shooting guns at 4 years old too. Nothing wrong with teaching a child how to PROPERLY use a firearm.

4 might be a little young for the firearm lesson, but then again most of the best target shooters started even before 4.

OK. I was raised around guns all my life. In what situation would anyone...least of all a 4 yo, need the skill of target shooting from a moving vehicle??? It's illegal to shoot deer from a vehicle. Unless we plan to start sending 4 yo to war, there should be no reason to be placing a gun with live ammo in a childs hand! Even with a B B gun, gun safety should b e the first lesson!

Maybe I'm too suspicious, but how do we know that the 4-year-old actually did anything. Suppose that the 18-year-old was the careless one. That could create numerous problems for him (ranging from legal to insurance rates). Blaming your 4-year-old brother is pretty easy.

Stupid people have an uncanny ability to find ways to hurt themselves and others. Mean stupid people are worse, as they invent ways to hurt others.

Either way, it provides job security to Cops, EMS workers and ER Docs.

The person to blame is the person who decided it was an OK idea to give a 4 year old a real gun.

The only gun a 4 year old should have is a water gun.

Gun safety is important in cultures and families where guns are used in any capacity. But gun handling at age four isn't appropriate anywhere for any reason.

I'm all for kids learning how to safely handle guns and use them for sport (hunting). Unfortunately, there is stupidity out there.

Honorary Darwin Awards for dad and bro.
